The Devil Crept In by Ania Ahlborn

What I am reading now

I always find myself filled with a sense of fear, trepidation and nervous excitement whenever I pick up one of Ania Ahlborn’s books to read.

They are as truly disturbing as they are gripping and once you start reading, you cannot stop yourself from becoming submerged in the terrifying horror that unfolds.

Basically, the essence of what a great horror book should be!

The Devil Crept In’s main character is a 10-year old boy and all you want to do is protect him from the horrors that you know he will encounter. There is a forest, there is a monster and there is his best friend. The great part of this book is that he does exactly what you always plead with every main character in a horror film not to do, the things your rational mind tells you to never do, but the beauty of Ania’s writing is you completely believe and understand his motivation. The character presents his case, through his words and experiences; his motivation so logical and believable that you understand why he would go into a dark forest at night to help his best friend. A friend that he knows is no longer his friend, but he is desperate to save.

I love and hate her stories in equally measure because they are so good and there is rarely a happy ending. I have tried to read them all, although I save them for a time when I feel strong enough to deal with the images her realistic story telling portray and the nightmares they leave me with after.
