The Broken series should have been a three book trilogy. Truthfully, it wasn’t even meant to be that. I had only planned one book, but the story grew: I had too many unanswered questions from Broken (Broken Series, Book 1), which spawned 2 more books. Then I introduced Jake in Torn (Broken Series, Book 3) and I found that couldn’t resist finding out why he too, was a broken soul.
What had happened to him in his life, what heartbreak had he encountered to make him turn to an endless string of women to soothe his heartache? Why did he seem so emotionally fragile (in Ty’s opinion), when he seemed to have it all?
With these thoughts in my mind, Perfectly Ruined was conceived.
I found this the easiest book to write out of the four books so far. Before I began writing, I already knew exactly who Jake was and what he was doing. I understood his motivation. He was so much fun to write, because he was such a player, anything could go and Jake was up for anything!
But, I had to rein him in because the story is in essence a love story between him and Tasha. If I had let him go to extremes, then I knew he would no longer be believable. Why would anyone want anything to do with such a womanizer? But, sadly this happens. However, in this story, Tasha, is a strong feisty woman, she had already had her heartbroken once and she adamant she would not let herself be played again. Jake would have to have an appeal that she could not resist – that is why he is also a hopeless romantic, at least when it comes to Tasha….
And that is the essence of this story: Love isn’t perfect, love isn’t right or wrong, it just is.
